CHORLTON PICKLEBALL CODE OF CONDUCT AND COURT ETIQUETTE

As a member of Chorlton Pickleball, all players agree to conduct themselves in a courteous and respectful manner both on the courts and when observing others playing while awaiting your turn. All participants are reminded the goal is to provide an environment where all players can play the game to the best of their ability and most importantly “have fun” while doing so. This code is to apply to any Chorlton Pickleball organised or sponsored pickleball event.

We ask that you please respect the facility, staff, equipment, and other players. We also ask that you respect the time periods and number of courts allotted.

We ask that you please help set up the nets, and help take them down and pack them away at the end of thesession. Everyone should assist with gathering up the balls during and after play. We aim to provide a storage area in due course. Once it is available we ask that you work to ensure that this area is kept organised, and that the pickleball equipment remains in the assigned area.

In the event of an injury, please seek out a leader who will see that first aid is provided. We ask that you do not take first aid supplies without leader approval first. The nearest AED can be located by phoning “999” in the case of an emergency.

Our goal is to promote the growth and development of pickleball. This sport will succeed best if its players embrace the values of good sportsmanship. It is essential that all players and spectators, in promoting this goal, model good behavior, lead by example, display respect, and show self-control.

The Code below applies in all situations that relate directly or indirectly to pickleball play.

Every person involved in Chorlton Pickleball (participant, official, volunteer, or spectator) pledges as follows:

Chorlton Pickleball would like to work with all members to make sure this is a safe, fun place for participants to play. Failure to abide by this Code may result in disciplinary action having to be taken by Chorlton Pickleball, which may ultimately lead to membership being withdrawn.

Court Etiquette

Everyone was (or is) a beginner at one time and playing with people that are better than you or that are just learning will help all players, at all skill levels and keep the sport of Pickleball growing. Everyone appreciates the time given to “assist” all levels of players with rules, set up, specific plays etc. If you are an “advanced” player, adjust your style when playing with beginners – work on your short game, work on ball placement. Mentor and offer advice kindly. Do not intimidate weaker players or dominate a game. Play to have fun.

As the club progresses, we may reserve some courts for advanced players. If so, the cut off rating for these courts will be set and all members will be informed. In this instance we would ask that lower rated players kindly remain on the other courts assigned for recreational play.

Once you have completed a game, losers of the match must vacate the court. Winners may stay on the court for a maximum of 2 games. After 2 games, they must leave the court to allow for players who have been waiting to play.

Be cognitive of other courts. Give those courts lots of room to continue their match. You will avoid possible injury to yourself and to the players that might not see you near their court. If you bring a guest that has not played pickleball – stay with your guest/friend for a good part of the session. Introduce your guest to other players.

Recognize and compliment your partner and opponents when they make good shots.

Apologize for bad or inappropriate remarks immediately.

Call out the score every time you serve so that your opponents can hear the score. Call out your score first, then the opponents score.

Do not chase the ball into another court. Call “ball” immediately when your stray ball rolls onto another court. No point is worth tripping over a ball and hurting yourself or other players. When retrieving a stray ball it is best not to walk onto a neighbouring court – wait until the rally is over. When a ball rolls onto your court, stop play immediately. Pick the ball up, look to see where it came from and return it as suggested above. Make eye contact with the person that you are returning the ball to, then roll or throw the ball to them.

We ask that you please police yourselves. If somebody is in violation of this code, please let a Chorlton Pickleball Leader know.

Enjoy the game. No point or game is that critical to ruin your day or lose a friend.

In summary, be a positive minded player. This is YOUR club, support it and strive to make it better.
